I've been doing a lot of experiments with settings made by gently placing sapphire into molten gold to create an initial secure setting. With this one I took the next step of carving the rounded molten gold form, completing an interesting crystalline form with light-catching facets. This high-contrast piece grasps a gorgeous magenta/purple sapphire shard in solid 14kt yellow gold set at the base of a seam ring.
