Olivewood + Turquoise Inlay Plugs

Size Guide

Estimated production time is 10-14 business days

Olivewood plugs with stabilized Turquoise inlays. Turquoise cabochons are set in brass bezels and secured with a hardware setting to the wood. We use no adhesives or glue in our fine stone settings.

Some turquoise cabochons are naturally more blue than others (see detail photo for an example of the variation), and the shade of turquoise used is strictly dependent on what we have in stock at a given time. We use 6mm turquoise inlays for plug sizes 8mm (0g) to 15mm, and 10mm turquoise inlays for plug sizes 16mm (5/8") to 26mm (1"). If you have ordered our inlay plugs in the past, please note these proportions may be different than what was used many years ago.

Important notes about turquoise: Turquoise is a stone that we are fortunate to be able to work. This particular variety has been stabilized, which means the turquoise is soft, so it is infused with a clear epoxy resin to retain color and maintain workability. The majority of ALL rough turquoise is stabilized before sale. This does not, however, mean the stone has been dyed - we do not use dyed stones. A common and cheap substitute for turquoise that has flooded the market in recent years is Howlite, a white stone that has been dyed blue to look like veined turquoise.

Carved and assembled here in our Richmond, Virginia studio.
