Hollow Shell Ear Flares

October 27, 2015

Material: Shell
Culture: Maya
Location: Northern Veracruz, Mexico
Period: Classic Maya
Size: 27mm x 24mm (width of face & wearing size)
Weight: 6g

Uniquely modern shell ear flares from the Gulf coast of Mexico. These pieces are double flared with slightly larger flares on one side (likely the front). There's a beautiful amount of color and texture variation within the material. I have a particular interest in shell antiquities and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to document this beautiful set.
